Important information

who is this scheme intended for?

This scheme is open for projects initiated by professional designers, makers, observers, design agencies or cultural institutions active within the field of design.

Design includes the disciplines product design, illustration, graphic design, fashion, interior and spacial design, animation, social design and subdisciplines that touch on these disciplines.

what grants can be applied for?

The following grants may be provided:
- project grant, co-financing is required
- starting grant up to a maximum of € 7,500, co-financing is not required

Please note: From 2024 you will no longer have to submit a project plan if you apply for a starting grant. Instead, we will ask you questions in the online application environment about the project for which you are applying for a starting grant.

how do you prepare an application?

In order to prepare the application, it is important for you to acquire the right information based on the following documents:

Grant Application Guide
The Grant Application Guide Design provides guidance and tips on preparing a grant application and an explanation of the criteria. You can use it for drawing up your application as completely as possible.

Design Grant Scheme
Applications are assessed on the basis of the Design Grant Scheme. This states the conditions, criteria and objectives.

Format Budget and Finance Plan

We recommend using the Format Budget and Finance Plan for preparing your budget and finance plan.

Publications Calculation Form
If your application concerns a publication, please use the Publications Calculation Form. Involve the publication’s publisher in completing the form.

do you have any specific questions?
Do you have any specific questions about your project plan? You can submit a concept to the staff of this scheme no later than two weeks before the closing date via vormgeving[at]stimuleringsfonds.nl.

what is assessed?

Applications are assessed by this scheme’s advisory committee. This is done on the basis of the Design Grant Scheme.

assessment criteria regular project grant

- artistic value
- significance of the theme or issue selected to the area of expertise
- effectiveness in terms of setup, methods and the expertise involved
- support as demonstrated by the partners involved, the method and extent of co-financing and the expected audience reach
- contribution to diversity and inclusivity within the discipline

The assessment criteria are explained in the Grant Application Guide Design. Slightly different criteria apply to starting grants. Please read the Design Grant Scheme for this.

what happens to your application?

acceptance
When you have submitted your application, the Fund Desk will check if your application complies with the formal requirements of the Design Grant Scheme.

assessment
An independent advisory committee will assess your application on the basis of the Design Grant Scheme. The committee advises the Fund’s Board.

prioritization
If the total amount requested in the applications eligible for funding exceeds the budget available for that particular grant round, prioritization will take place.

decision
The Board takes account of the committee’s advice in its decision on the rejection or provision of the grant. You will be notified about the result in a decision.

accountability
If you receive a grant from the Fund, then you will have to comply with the obligations. Two weeks before the conclusion of your project, you will be asked by email to submit your accountability form in the application environment.
