Important information

This scheme has three grant periods per year in which to submit an application relating to either design, architecture, or digital culture. The available budgets within each discipline's grant period will determine the maximum number of applications that may be processed.

If your project relates to more than one of these disciplines, please choose which one is the focus. You should complete the application form and submit a concise project plan, a budget and a timetable. We also ask for a portfolio, the CVs of the main project players , and a digitally certified extract from the Chamber of Commerce.

Only applications that are complete and meet the entry requirements and conditions described in Articles 6 and 7 of the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme can be processed. Applications will be assessed in order of receipt and processed per discipline until the maximum number of applications within that discipline is reached.

Designers, makers, observers, design agencies and cultural institutions working in the fields of design, architecture and digital culture may apply for a grant for projects with a total budget of up to €10,000, including any co-financing or personal contribution from the applicant.

A grant may be requested for:

  • The execution of a small-scale and independent project that results in a final product, event or presentation
  • A clearly defined experiment aimed at acquiring new knowledge
  • Conducting preliminary research in preparation for a larger-scale project or collaboration.

In preparation for applying, it is important to familiarise yourself with the following documents:

creative Industries kick-start grant scheme manual

In the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme manual, you will find tools and tips for preparing an application, a checklist with an overview of the documents you must submit with your applications, and an explanation of how to draw up a budget.

Applications are assessed by the advisory committee for this scheme using the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme.

assessment criteria

  • significance of the chosen theme or question for the field
  • artistic quality of the project
  • effectiveness in design, methodology and the expertise involved

The assessment criteria are explained in the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme manual.

processing

After an application is submitted, it will be checked against the entry requirements detailed in the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme. Applications are processed in order of receipt until the maximum number for each discipline has been reached. After this stage, no further applications will be processed.

assessment

Applications that are complete and meet the entry requirements and conditions will be assessed by the advisory committee using the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme. The committee will advise the board of the Creative Industries Fund NL on whether to award a grant.

prioritisation

If the total number of applications eligible for grants exceeds the available budget for the grant period, priority will be given based on scores achieved against the assessment criteria.

decision

Based on the advice of the committee, the board will decide whether to award a grant. Applicants will be informed of this outcome in a decision letter.

conclusion

Once a grant has been awarded and paid out, it will be concluded immediately. We therefore do not ask for further documentation, however we may ask for insight into the project administration.

Can the total project budget be higher than €10,000?

Due to the small scale of the projects eligible for this grant scheme, the total project budget may not exceed €10,000, including any co-financing or personal contribution from the applicant. Co-financing is possible with the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme but not mandatory. Please ensure all time and resources invested are stated and quantified in your budget and funding plan. If you draw up the budget including VAT which you are not liable to pay, it may still not exceed €10,000.

How do I determine which field my project relates to?

For each grant period of this scheme, the available budget is used to determine the maximum number of applications that may be processed from design, architecture and digital culture. That is why we ask you to indicate in the application form which of these fields your project relates to. Your application will be assessed within that field, described in Article 1 of the Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme. If you are applying for a project that relates to more than one of these disciplines, choose the discipline within which the focus of your project lies.

If the project for which I receive a grant under this scheme results in a larger project, can I also apply for a grant for that?

The Creative Industries Kick-start Grant Scheme supports projects in which preliminary research is conducted to set up a larger project or collaboration. Grants can be applied for again for this larger follow-up project under the Design, Architecture, Digital Culture or Internationalisation Grant Schemes. These are open to grant requests from €10,000 up to a maximum of €50,000 as a contribution to the total project costs, of which at least 20% must be covered by co-financing.

How often can I submit a revised application?

Was your application rejected with a negative decision? You may revise your application once and resubmit it in a subsequent grant period with new information based on which the committee can arrive at a new decision. Were you ineligible for a grant due to prioritisation? If an application is resubmitted in a new grant period after it was not processed due to the maximum number of applications being reached, it will not be considered a revised application.

Can I submit more than one application at the same time for each grant period?

No, you can only submit one grant application per grant period under this scheme. Additionally, you cannot receive more than one grant per twelve months under this scheme. We check this when processing the applications based on the Chamber of Commerce number.

If you submit an application under this scheme and are involved in a project for which an application is also being submitted within the same grant period under this scheme, this is not an issue. It is also possible to submit applications for different projects under different schemes simultaneously.
