Fifteen projects were selected in the second round of the 2026 Architecture Kick-start Grant Scheme.

This grant scheme is for small-scale projects, experiments and preliminary research in the field of architecture. The selected projects demonstrate the field’s diversity, with attention paid to topics including sustainable material use, documenting and sharing architectural knowledge and history, and the role of communities. The Broken Fraction – Philippe Allignet
In The Broken Fraction, Philippe Allignet investigates how residual materials from public space, such as bricks, tiles and concrete, can acquire new meaning in the city. These materials embody the history of buildings and places, however this is often lost during existing recycling processes. During the preliminary research, Allignet tests various materials combined with commercially available binding agents. This research results in a materials library, a methodology and a visual atlas. TU Delft’s The Green Village is involved in the project and will organise two knowledge-sharing sessions.

Het gereedschap van een architect – Schouten Architecten
In Het gereedschap van een architect, Jan Dirk Schouten (Schouten Architecten) investigates the thinking and design approach of municipal architect Ad van der Steur. The preliminary research consists of developing a scenario and an editing experiment based on handwritten texts in which Van der Steur described his architectural vision. Interviews will be conducted with users as well as architects interacting with his work. This research will constitute the basis for a film that offers a new perspective on Van der Steur’s oeuvre and is intended for architects, designers and a widerbroad audience.

Wat is thuis? – Rudi van Delden
During Wat is thuis?, Rudi van Delden and Daniël Siegersma are organising a series of workshops and an exhibition at a shopping centre in Schalkwijk. Together with residents, they investigate how the has changed over the years and how personal stories, traditions and memories have influenced post-war urban planning. Central to the project is the question of what ‘home’ means in a constantly changing environment. At the workshops, residents create models and share their stories which will be compiled into an exhibition. Van Delden and Siegersma are collaborating with various organisations in Schalkwijk, including Club Schalkwijk, Genootschap Oud Schalkwijk and De Wereldkeuken.

This round’s budget was € 167,000
Prioritisation was unnecessary as the budget was not fully utilised. The remaining € 29,055 will be added to the amount available for a future round.

The Architecture Kick-start Grant Scheme will reopen for applications from 30 September 2026 at 15:00 CEST until 7 October 2026 at 16:00 CEST. Grants of up to € 10,000 are available. Read the grant scheme page to prepare effectively.
