Room for Justice in practice: three events in November
In 2023, the Creative Industries Fund NL launched the Open Call Room for Justice. Since then, various project teams have been working on the necessary ‘reconversion' of the Netherlands. How can the transformation of the Netherlands also be utilised as a means to improve the quality of life for everyone?
28 October 2025
Three process managers (Marthe Singelenberg, Max Weghorst and Mats Siffels) guided this design process, examined the progress and worked throughout the process to develop a Just Design Toolbox: a practical tool that gives spatial designers concrete instruments to consciously shape justice. During no fewer than three events in November, the process managers are heading out to share the results of the projects as well as their own research with a wide audience.

Stadmakerscongres Rotterdam: Bouwen aan sociaal (Building on the social)
At the Stadmakerscongres in Rotterdam, Marthe Singelenberg is taking part in the workshop 'Bouwen aan sociaal', led by David ter Avest. Spatial and social tasks are inextricably linked, but are often addressed separately in policy and implementation. This session shows why an integrated approach is needed. Marthe provides an inspiring introduction and presents the Just Design Toolbox. Afterwards, participants discuss projects where spatial plans and societal tasks successfully come together.
Time: 14 November 2025, 10:30 – 12:30
Location: Theater Rotterdam, Schouwburg

Stadmakersfestival Den Haag: Workshop Just Design
The theme this year of the annual Stadmakersfestival in The Hague is the ‘Powerful City’. The process managers are providing an interactive workshop entitled ‘Help build a just city - Learn how to work with the Just Design Toolbox’. Over the next 10 years, Dutch cities will add 100,000 people and large areas will be transformed. As part of this process, how do you make choices that are fair and equitable? In addition to an introduction to the Just Design Toolbox, design teams share how they have dealt with dilemmas and choices. Participants can then work on their own case or contribute to someone else’s thought processes.
Time: 21 November 2025, 10:25 – 12:15
Location: Amare (Swing Hall), The Hague

In addition to physical tasks, social aspects such as opportunities to meet, liveability and resident involvement are increasingly central to area development. meet, liveability and resident involvement are increasingly central to area development. Developers, designers and researchers engage with each other on how divergent interests and requirements in the space can be navigated equitably.
