For individual designers, makers an observers in the field of digital culture who would like to conduct research in Hong Kong and develop new work through media art, focused on social and urban dynamics.
The Creative Industries Fund NL launches this residency in collaboration with media arts institution Videotage. This Hong Kong-based non-profit organisation specialises in the promotion, presentation, creation, and preservation of moving images and media art in all forms and languages.
This Videotage residency encourages crossover and experimentation, offering a chance to learn from other perspectives and ideas. Participants will have the space to conduct research, broaden their network, and develop new work with a focus on social and urban dynamics in Hong Kong. They can explore new areas of work, broaden their creative practice, and produce work that pushes the boundaries of digital culture. The 2026 edition takes the concept of liminal space as a starting point and invites participants to explore this theme within the context of the residency.
Applications may be submitted by individual designers, makers or observers based in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (the Netherlands, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten) who have had a professional practice within the creative industry for at least four years.
It is not possible to apply for duos, collectives or collaborations. It is also not possible to apply for practitioners who currently receive funding through the Creative Industry Fund NL's Talent Development Grant Scheme.

Applications are assessed on the basis of the Open Call Residency Videotage, which describes the reason and objective, central questions, criteria and procedure.
Applications are assessed on the basis of the Open Call Grant Scheme, which describes the general conditions, grounds for rejection, manner of publication, submission procedure, assessment, the award and any grant obligations.
All submitted applications that meet the formal requirements and are provided with all requested attachments will be presented to an external advisory committee. The advisory committee will make an assessment based on the following criteria:
When you have submitted your application, the Fund will check if your application complies with the formal requirements of the Open Call Grant Scheme.
An independent advisory committee will assess your application on the basis of the Open Call Grant Scheme and Open Call Residency Videotage. The committee advises the Fund’s Board.
The assessment of this open call takes the form of a tender: proposals are ranked based on the criteria and only positively assessed applicants are eligible for a residency position. The highest-scoring proposals will be awarded.
The board takes account of the advisory committee’s advice in its decision on the rejection or provision of a grant. The fund will inform you of the decision no later than eight weeks after the closing date.
