Counter-mapping trans-national abortion care | Uitgeverij Spookstad

Publishing platform Spookstad is working with midwife and university lecturer in healthcare ethics Rodante van der Waal on an in-depth study of international abortion care. They aim to identify and question the dominant power structures within abortion care through counter-mapping: a method of providing insight into alternative places, developments and ideas by means of cartography. This counter map will be made accessible on a website, with the aim of disseminating knowledge and strengthening links between professionals working in abortion care. Part of the project is a two-day workshop in Amsterdam where knowledge is exchanged to fine-tune the counter map. The first phase lays the foundation for the project; the second phase focuses on developing a comprehensive publication. With an abortion atlas, the initiators aim to address issues relating to reproductive justice and activism and attract the interest of a wide audience. The ultimate goal is to contribute to knowledge development about autonomy and good practices for people working in abortion care.
