César Rogers | César Rogers
Graphic designer and letter researcher César Rogers graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Art & Design. In his practice, Rogers explores how new media technologies affect the way we use language. In the coming year, he will focus on a critical analysis of Latin script. Through historical research, he aims to question the dominance of this writing system. For instance, he conducts archival research to reconstruct the invention of printing in China and makes connections to the beginning of printing in Europe. In addition, Rogers studies the development of printing during the Industrial Revolution, with a particular focus on the role of Chinese typography in a colonial context.
Throughout the development process, Rogers combines theoretical research with traditional craftsmanship. He is organising public presentations, workshops and exhibitions. To share the outcomes, he is building his own online platform.
