Important information
The Arita residency was set up by Creative Residency Arita (CRA), an international artist-in-residence programme of the city of Arita and Saga Prefecture on Kyushu, in collaboration with the Creative Industries Fund NL and the Mondriaan Fund.
The aim of the residency is to stimulate crossovers and experimentation and to initiate new collaborations between Dutch designers and artists and local porcelain producers and craftsmen. An important starting point for this residency is to learn special techniques within Japan's oldest ceramics industry and to apply these in the participants’ work.
This open call is open to individual designers and artists. Designers submit their application to the Creative Industries Fund NL. Artists can do so through the Mondriaan Fund.
It is not possible to apply as a duo, collective or cooperative venture.
The designers and artists are expected to have some basic knowledge of working with ceramics and an affinity with the Japanese context of the residency.

Open Call Grant Scheme
Applications are assessed on the basis of the Open Call Grant Scheme. This scheme describes the general conditions, grounds for rejection, manner of publication, submission process, assessment and award procedures, and grant obligations.

acceptance
When you have submitted your application, the Fund Desk will check if your application complies with the formal requirements of the Open Call Grant Scheme.
assessment
An independent advisory committee will evaluate your application on the basis of the criteria and requirements set out in the Open Call Residency Arita 2023 / 2024 and the Open Call Grant Scheme. The committee advises the Fund’s Board.
ranking
The assessment of the open call is similar to a tender. This means that, within the available budget, a number of proposals will be preferred over other ones. Only positively assessed projects will be supported.
decision
The board takes account of the advisory committee’s advice in its decision on the rejection or provision of a grant. You will be notified of the result by means of a decision.
accountability
If you receive a grant from the Fund you will have to comply with the obligations. Two weeks before the conclusion of your project, you will be requested by email to submit your accountability form in the Fund’s application environment.
