Intersecting geographies and technologies: on African spatial practices
On Saturday, September 28, the Prince Claus Fund and the Creative Industries Fund NL present Building Beyond’s Intersecting geographies and technologies: on African spatial practices. An afternoon of presentations and talks dedicated to critically exploring and (re)imagining the future of African cities, kindly hosted at Kunstinstituut Melly.
Intersecting geographies and technologies: on African spatial practices explores how geography and technology intersect and influence each other, particularly in the context of different global practices and histories. We approach technology from a perspective that expands our understanding beyond digital tools, emphasising human interaction and cooperation as foundational elements. With this broader definition, we can reimagine how projects and institutions are built – in which collaboration becomes the cornerstone and we open doors to innovative methodologies and inclusive practices. Our projects are rooted in specific geographies, each with its unique cultural, social, and historical contexts. Mapping these geographies involves understanding the local dynamics and how they interact with global trends. We understand stitching not only as a literal act but also as a figure for connecting, repairing, and evolving practices and systems within and across different geographies.
In this symposium we will have 4 panel sessions that reflect on how these geographies and technologies of stitching can build conditions in which to assemble and collaborate across spaces and territories.
