Information evening Open Call Hidden (Hi)stories
On Thursday, 20 July 2023, the Creative Industries Fund NL and the Nieuwe Instituut are jointly organizing an information evening in the context of the open call and the work and learning trajectory Hidden (Hi)stories.
date: Thursday 20 July 2023
time: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
location: Nieuwe Instituut Auditorium or online
language: English
Hidden (Hi)stories is focused on uncovering hidden stories through design, and rendering these, and issues relating to them, visible, tangible and discussable. Which legacies, places and perspectives have so far been concealed, neglected or remain hidden? What does narrating, representing and collecting 'otherwise' mean for communities to which these hidden (hi)stories relate?
During this hybrid event, Setareh Noorani (Nieuwe Instituut), Mireille de Koning and Roxanne da Graça (Creative Industries Fund NL) will speak with researchers and designers to reflect on the theme of the Open Call Hidden (Hi)stories.
speakers
Rifandi Nugroho (gudskul), Robin Hartanto Honggare (arsitektur indonesia) and Gesya Namora (gudskul) started the project Resituating Colonial Archives, within Collecting Otherwise. Resituating Colonial Archives are a series of workshops and public presentations in which eight researchers and architecture and artists' collectives from different parts of Indonesia investigated the country's built environment and its intertwining with the colonial past and present.
Artists Cihad Caner and Ulufer Çelik will talk about their research into piracy, ways of being and methods of navigation. This research departs from a sailboat relief found on the Katendrechtse Lagedijk in Rotterdam, connecting it to sites in Istanbul and New York.
There will be space during the information evening to ask questions about the Open Call Hidden (Hi)stories. Participation is possible both in person at the Nieuwe Instituut (Auditorium) or online. This event will be held in English.
